IMD issues yellow alert for Mumbai, orange alert for Gujarat coast .
Many Air India flights are delayed or cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions and the temporary closure of Runway 09/27 at Mumbai airport. This announcement from Air India comes as Mumbai experiences heavy rainfall and the escalation of Cyclone Biparjoy into a severe cyclonic storm.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to hold a meeting today to review the situation related to Cyclone Biparjoy .
Around 1300 people have been evacuated to safer places in view of the upcoming cyclone Biparjoy .
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for India’s Financial capital Mumbai, its neighbouring cities. IMD has also issued an orange alert for Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch coasts as cyclone Biparjoy has intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm.
As Cyclone Biparjoy hits India, it is expected that it will bring a bout of heavy rains and thunderstorms in certain parts of the country, just as parts of northern India, including Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab remain battling with heatwave conditions.
